So what happened was... driving home from where I was for work (15 miles), traffic ground to a halt. They said on the radio it was due to a "collapsed manhole cover". After about 10 minutes I got a bit bored and pulled off and decided to go a different way, slight diversion.... which turned out to be quite long.... then I missed a turning... and a 15 mile journey turned into 36.... oops!
